The 504 Coupe's proportions are decidedly superior. In 1974, the 504 debuted the new PRV (Peugeot-renault-Volvo) V6, in its original 2664 cc form and making 136 hp. The ultimate engine version in the coupe was the later 160 hp fuel injected V6, but that was withheld from the Cabrio because of concerns about structural integrity.

The 504 debuted as Peugeot's flagship model at the Paris Salon in September 1968 and would go on to enjoy an exceptionally lengthy production run, manufacture in France only ceasing in 1983, by which time some three million had been built.

The initial 1.8-liter gasoline engines in two-door 504s made the same 79 horsepower as in the sedan, but had a revised drive ratio to give a higher road speed at low RPMs. All two-door examples had injection as standard, where it was optional at sedan level. 504's range expanded in 1970 to include a wagon (Break) and a pickup truck.

Peugeot 504 technical specifications and fuel economy
