This particular diminutive BSA, a 1956 D3 Bantam Major 150, is unusual in a couple of ways. Firstly, the 148cc variant, usually finished overall in Pastel Grey, was only made for four years, from 1954, so there are fewer about than the ubiquitous D1 125s, or the many later 175cc versions.

The BSA Bantam (1948-1971) was by far the longest running motorcycle model produced by the Birmingham based company. This was because, unlike the 4-stroke motorcycles produced that went from side valve to overhead valve and from pre-unit to unit construction models over that timescale, the 2-stroke Bantam engine remained largely the same other than increasing in capacity from 125 cc to 175 cc.
