Anton Pieck werd in Den Helder geboren, hij woonde in Den Haag en een groot deel van zijn leven bracht hij door in Overveen. Hattem komt niet voor in zijn levensbeschrijving. Door een overzichtstentoonstelling van het werk van Pieck in Laren in 1980, die heel veel bezoekers trok, kregen de plannen voor een eigen museum voor Pieck een belangrijke impuls.
