That's because the ZR-7 is based around a slightly updated version of the Z750 engine of 1973. The air-cooled four-cylinder engine is decidedly low-tech, but it offers economical, reliable running, with a lazy, flexible power delivery.

Fri, 1 Jan 1999 Reliable and cheap. Dull as ditchwater to ride. Anyone remember Kawasaki's ill-fated ZR-7, which got panned from day one and never really recovered? The half faired ZR-7S, which appeared a year later in 2001 also came in for some stick. Unfortunately for Kawasaki, timing wasn't on their side.
