There seem to be three classes of weapon now: Class 1: weapons whose impact is reduced when attacking a power shield. Class 2: weapons whose impact is the same when attacking a power shield. Class 3: weapons whose impact is increased when attacking a power shield. (by "impact" I mean the overall loss to your health, armor and cells.

Quake 2 Enhanced, in general, automatically activates the shield. If you want to change this, head to Options > Gameplay > Auto Power Shield (or w/e it's called) > Manual. Doing that, it won't activate unless you manually do so. #1 Marvyn777 Sep 4, 2023 @ 7:02am

Overall I think Quake 1's Mission Packs made more "impact" also because they expanded the "basic" Quake. With Quake 2, there was kind of nothing to expand, adding even more enemy variants, weapons and items just resulted in bloat, and the levels were the same alien metal bases and factories. 13.

However, (other than the Power Shield she has on Nightmare difficulty anyway), she will only use these in response to the player using certain power-ups themselves. Consult the list.

Backpack Power Shield There are two energy shields in the code, but only one (Power Shield) actually appears in the game. The other (Power Screen) can be added to user maps and does, in fact appear (as Raul Rios pointed out) in the first Q2 conversion of Hipnotic's (Now Ritual) Quake deathmatch map: "hipdm1".
