We drove to Alnwick Castle. It's located about 35 miles north of Newcastle. Foolishly I thought I could just put "Alnwick Castle" into Google Maps. That didn't work so well. It's best to use the postcode NE66 1YU, which will take you directly to the parking lot. It's £3 to park for the whole day, but you will need to pay in cash

However, the castle viewed from the outside, is a dominant feature in its elevated position overlooking the River Aln. Forget about it being a filming location for Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, etc. this is quite simply a stunningly beautiful castle that is over 800 years old. Visited March 2023. The castle is free to visit as a Historic Houses member, while the gardens cost £17.60 per adult, which you can purchase in advance on their website here. Alnwick Castle is open daily from 31 March. The Alnwick castle is spectacular, of course, but there is something magical and quite breathtaking about the wee little towns like Kelso or the coast scenery of Northumberland. 10/10. I would take this tour everyday if I had the chance. But for the meantime, I'll remember it fondly. Thanks a lot, Jim!
